Creating a Shortcut/Alias

How do I create a shortcut/alias to the program on the desktop?

Possible Causes & Solutions

Presently, the default settings for program installers create a shortcut/alias on the desktop for all user accounts (previously, the installer only created the shortcut/alias for the currently logged in user). Use these instructions if a shortcut/alias was not placed on your desktop and you would like to do so.

Windows

To create a shortcut on a Windows computer, see these instructions. If you want the shortcut to be available to all users, put the shortcut in the appropriate "All Users" directory.

Mac

To create an alias on a Macintosh computer:

  1. Open a new Finder window.
  2. Browse to the folder containing the program.
  3. Control-click the program icon and select "Make Alias".
  4. Drag the alias to the desktop.
